class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><\/p>\n<p>The genus Kohleria (co-LEER-ee-a)\u00a0 was named by Regel, a German in 1847.\u00a0 The genus was named in honor of Michael Kohler, a Lecturer in Natural History in Zurich.\u00a0 Kohleria is a genus of 85 species ranging from Central to South America.\u00a0 Some Kohlerias are small plants and others are shrub size.\u00a0 Leaves are hairy and opposite in pairs of two or whorls of three to four leaves.\u00a0 The flower shape is uniform having a thick tube with two small and three large lobes.\u00a0 The flowers are brightly colored.\u00a0 The lobes and throat are covered with a pattern of spots in more intense or contrasting colors.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Plant Kohleria rhizomes (underground stems) in the spring in a soilless mix consisting of one part vermiculite, one part peat moss and one part perlite.\u00a0 Kohlerias can also be propagated from tip cuttings or propagules (rhizome like structures that sometimes occur in the axils of the leaves).\u00a0 They do well in a light garden.\u00a0 In the winter Kohlerias like a temperature of 50\u00baF &#8211; 60\u00baF and a period of real dormancy.\u00a0 In the summer they like a temperature\u00a0 level of 60\u00baF but not over 80\u00baF.\u00a0 They are very popular in Europe because they keep their houses cooler.\u00a0 Kohlerias have a tendency to become leggy in warmer conditions.\u00a0 Fertilize Kohlerias with \u00bc teaspoon of granular fertilizer to a gallon of water.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div
